Based on the concept of the One Village One Product (OVOP) movement which started in Japan, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Food Security is promoting education and human resource development for small-scale producers to raise the capacity of those involved in the agricultural sector and improve their quality of life. At the same time, the Ministry aims that the inclusive community development initiative, in which residents themselves play a leading role in community development through the establishment of local branded products (tangible products, services, and events) by participating communities, is disseminated throughout the country as One Community One Product (OCOP, hereafter “OCOP Saint Lucia”), a Saint Lucian version of OVOP. This initiative is expected to revitalize and strengthen the agricultural and fisheries sectors, alleviate the high unemployment rate (especially among youth), improve the country’s dependence on imports for daily necessities, and expand the domestic market.
