On June 1^st 2023, a career showcase was held for the Secondary schools within Education District 5. The Plant Research & Development Division jumped at the opportunity to showcase a different side to agriculture. Often times, students are under the impression agriculture is only about farming. Although farming is the backbone of agriculture, students were introduced to a number of specialist careers areas which are currently under the Plant Research Division. These include Food Science, Microbiology, Plant pathology, Entomology, Analytical Chemistry, Soil Science, Agronomy to name a few. In addition to these, the field components such as Plant Quarantine, Crop protection, Agronomy and Soil and Pesticide Management were also highlighted.  Students, Parents and Teachers were impressed with the variety of potential career paths available within the Research and Development side of the sector. The officers representing the Division also took the opportunity to speak with students, parents and teachers on the looming threat of TR4, its proximity to our shores and what role they can play in keeping Saint Lucia safe.
