The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development joined the rest of the region in commemorating Caribbean Wellness Day as they collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Taiwan Technical Mission to host a Farmers Market that not only showcased the offerings of the agriculture sector but also focused on the nutritional benefits of local purchasing.

The Farmers Market, held at Constitution Park in Castries, brought together a diverse array of individuals, including forty youth ambassadors from Taiwan, as well as local farmers, entrepreneurs and consumers creating an atmosphere of unity, and sustainability within the agriculture sector.

Ambassador of the Republic of China, Taiwan, H.E. Peter Chia-yen Chen, expressed his commitment to further cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture and Health to promote food and nutrition security.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to Hon. Minister Alfred Prospere and other colleagues in the Ministry of Agriculture for your leadership and support to all our agriculture cooperations. The Taiwan embassy will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture to enhance the well-being of farmers and to promote food security.”

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development, Hon. Alfred Prospere, in recognizing the significance of Caribbean Wellness Day, emphasized the pivotal role of agriculture in enhancing collective health and wellness.

“While wellness seems to apply to one ministry, it is an entity that must be embraced by all, as is inferred by this year’s theme for Caribbean Wellness Day, ‘Power through Collective Action.’ This is clearly manifested today through the joint venture by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, and the Taiwan Technical Mission, which will bring overall success and benefits to the people of Saint Lucia in ways that will continuously have bountiful effects.”

The Farmers Market showcased the potential for international cooperation to foster prosperity and sustainable agriculture, in harmony with the agriculture ministry’s commitment to enhancing food security.
