MOA DEPARTMENTS
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Resources is a Technical arm of The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Physical Planning, Natural Resources, and Cooperatives. The main purpose of this Department is to promote a diversified national income base from agriculture, forestry, and fisheries with the aim to enhance food and nutrition security and by extension improve livelihoods. This is achieved by building capacity and empowering our clients in efficient and competitive food production and marketing of goods and services through transfer of appropriate technologies, promoting Good Agricultural Practices that are cost effective while ensuring minimal damage to the environment.
Not only does the department implement policies and programs to support the development of the agricultural industry but also seeks to regulate the implementation of such policies as it relates to farming, agro-processing, forestry, fishing and the establishment of cooperatives to name a few. The department continues to network and collaborate with many regional and international agencies to ascertain that the development of our local industry is in keeping with international laws and regulations to facilitate export potential and to take advantage of opportunities for further development.
The department comprises of four main areas of focus which are as follows: Agricultural Services, Fisheries, Forestry, and Cooperatives. Of these four focused areas, the Agricultural Services encompass six major pillars with a wide range of responsibilities from agricultural primary production to support services. These include

The Department of Agriculture also fosters the development of agricultural based organizations, promoting unity and cooperation among our primary producers. It continues to play a vital role in keeping farmers, fishers, foresters and agro-processors in business and ensuring that the local food supply is readily available, safe, and of good quality. Another key responsibility is to support and ensure, through sustainable management, the good health of animals and plants and the environment are maintained, while contributing to socio-economic development especially in our rural communities.
