Fusarium Wilt TR4 Awareness Activity- Sir Arthur Lewis Community College
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development continues its awareness and sensitization drive. The objective is to inform and educate stakeholders about Fusarium Wilt Tropical Race 4 (TR4) while protecting livelihoods and safeguarding food security. This awareness activity was carried out at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC), as part of the ongoing TR4 awareness activities island-wide with various stakeholders on Wednesday 20TH September 2023.
The participants at this meeting involved SALCC were Dr. Madgerie Jameson-Charles (Principal), Dr. Catherine McCann (Head of the Agri-Entrepreneurship & Climate Smart Agriculture Department, Mr. Stephen Romain (Lecturer, welcome and introduction remarks), other lecturers (Mr. Germain Ambrose and Dr Felix Jariah), Students of the Department enrolled in the following Associate Degree Programmes: i. Climate Smart Agriculture (Crop Production); ii. General Agriculture iii. Agribusiness Entrepreneurship. Overall the presentation was well received and stimulated heightened interaction.
The Ministry of Agriculture continues to encourage all persons to avoid attempting to import or bring in planting materials without the necessary phytosanitary certificates. Additionally, if you observe any strange signs on your farm or backyard contact your Extension Officer. When you do go on vacation abroad, please take a picture of your favorite plants but please do not bring in samples.
