In a demonstration of enduring diplomatic relations and international cooperation, the Government of Saint Lucia has once again received a supply of fertilizer from the Kingdom of Morocco. This cooperative gesture provided annually, aims to address soil fertility challenges and elevate crop production across the nation.

A consignment of three thousand, nine hundred and seventy-five (3975) bags of fertilizer was handed over at the La Caye Inland Reception Distribution Center (IRDC) on August 16, 2023 where Government officials, agricultural sector representatives and stakeholders congregated to acknowledge the significance of international partnerships in advancing sustainable development goals.

Minister Counsellor of the Kingdom of Morocco, Abdelquder Mehdaoui says “the collaboration between the two nations extends beyond material assistance, signifying a shared commitment to progress and underscoring the value of working together to overcome common challenges and promote agricultural sustainability.”

He expressed a hopeful vision stating, “I anticipate that the relationship between Morocco and Saint Lucia will transcend bilateral boundaries, evolving into a multi-lateral alliance involving not only our two nations but also encompassing other African countries.”

Highlighting the pivotal role of farmers in ensuring the nation’s food security and economic prosperity, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development, Hon. Alfred Prospere, underscored the substantial benefits that would accrue to them through the benevolent provision of fertilizer distributed at no cost. Expressing profound gratitude to the Kingdom of Morocco for its unwavering support in bolstering Saint Lucia’s agricultural sector and paving the way for a more promising future he remarked, “Today, I am greatly delighted to receive on behalf of the Government of Saint Lucia, this generous donation of fertilizer that will be bestowed upon our farmers without any financial burden. By extending this support to our farmers, we are actively enhancing our food security and reinforcing our nutritional well-being. As we strive to achieve the ambitious 25 by 25 target within the next two years, it becomes our collective responsibility, both as a Government and as a Ministry, to play a substantial role in its attainment. This initiative stands as a meaningful step toward our commitment to this goal.”

As both nations look forward to a future of shared growth and prosperity, the Government of Saint Lucia reiterates its dedication to nurturing and strengthening diplomatic ties in effecting positive change on a national scale.
