Preparations to confront the 2025 dry season

January 6 2025

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development takes this opportunity to remind the public that we are currently into the second month of the 2025 Dry Season and plans for water storage together with water management measures should be in place. The traditional dry season period runs from December to May and the deficit in rainfall can range from moderate to severe in any given year.
The public is encouraged to be proactive and to store as much water as possible, as well as to
increase storage capacity based on the:
1. Size of the household/farm/commercial business
2. Type of activity (frequency of water use)
3. Potential disruption in service from the water utility
The Ministry promotes the use of rainwater harvesting as an additional source of water to complement the potable water service received from WASCO. The impact is positive as the results are immediate after every rainfall event. The months of December and January typically have the highest rainfall volumes (for the dry season), however, it rains anytime of the year, even at the peak of the dry season. This means that a rainwater harvesting system is beneficial year round! As weather patterns continue to vary, building resilience in our water supply systems is essential. Monitoring of the weather forecast on a weekly basis can guide with your water management practices. We all can play our role to reduce or eliminate the inconvenience of not having water.
