This farming areas is generally Flat to gentle slope with a selected few hillside farms. This area is predominantly banana production area followed but Food, root, vegetable and moderate tree crop production.

This farming area is generally characterized by hillside farming
This area is predominantly root crop production area followed by food and tree crop production with little vegetable production.

  • This farming area is a generally hillside farming with a few flat areas of farm land.

This farming area is a mixture of flat to gently slope and hillside farming. This area is predominantly banana and plantain production and a mixture of tree, root , horticulture and the largest concentration of vegetable production in this region.

Past and On-going Projects happening in each Region

Compost Training:
Creation of chicken, horse, goat, sheep, and pig compost heads using manure, soil, grass, and sawdust.         

Vanilla Production Training:
Farmers were taught how to set up a trellis, germinate, pollinate and harvest vanilla flowers      

Tree Crop Pruning Training:
Farmers engaged in the selection and maintenance of chainsaws and the correct tree crop pruning practices.

Vegetable Grafting:
Grafting of vegetables (bell pepper, tomato, watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, and eggplant)

Mushroom Production Training:
Farmers were taught the process of Fungiculture

Breadfruit and Root Crop Production for Export Training:

Chemicals and strategies used for preparation of commodities for export  

Caribbean Chemicals Training:

The introduction to an Organic Chemical Line comprising of insecticides, fungicides and miticides. All their active ingredients are essential oils. They also launched a high water soluble fertilizers that translucently absorbed by the crop. 

 

 

Plantain Production Training:

Management of Black Sigatoka, Nematodes’ and Stem Bora was discussed at this training

Climate Change Workshop

understanding of the term climate change in terms of the impact of activities conducted on the farm and the potential disadvantage for generations to come

Alternatives to Chemical Pesticides Training:

Farmers were informed of other alternatives used to fertilize crops (compost tea etc.)

Grafting, Air Layering & Budding Training:

A theoretical and practical training was completed with the farmers where the grafting techniques were taught.

York University and St. George University Collaboration on Pesticides Platform for Farmers

Modules: Pesticide and Personal Protective Equipment and Label reading and Pre-Harvest Interval were completed with farmers
