Saint Lucia’s First Automatic Water Quality Station

WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Saint Lucia’s First Automatic Water Quality Station

The Water Resources Management Agency is pleased to announce the commissioning of the first automatic water quality monitoring station in Saint Lucia. The implementation of automatic water quality monitoring stations poses a great challenge, due to issues related with river and stream geomorphology, vandalism, and theft. This has limited WRMA’s water quality monitoring activities to spot measurements, rather than the continuous monitoring necessary to obtain the data required for resource management.  Commissioned in May 2022 at Talvern Babonneau, this station was provided under a CCCCC pilot project to increase the quality and availability of water quality data in the Caribbean. The station facilitates the continuous monitoring of pH, temperature, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and conductivity. The WRMA is eager to explore the applications of the analysis of the dataset which will be captured by this station, as it marks the beginning of a new era of water quality monitoring in Saint Lucia.
