Celebrating World Food Day 2024: The Ministry of Agriculture Hosts International Food Festival to Promote Food Security and Nutrition for a Better Future 

World Food Day plays a pivotal role dedicated to raising consciousness to ensure that every individual has access to a well-balanced and nourishing meal across the globe. Embracing this year’s theme for World Food Day 2024, “Right to foods for a better life and a better future,” the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development recently hosted an International Food Festival that brought together many sector partners to highlight many local and international cuisines and many local products that can help improve Saint Lucia’s food security.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Barrymore Felicien, acknowledged the advancements made in the pursuit of Sustainable Development Goal 1, which is to end world hunger. However, he stressed the significance of the festival in uniting various nations in recognizing the nutritional benefits of food and culture.              “ so we celebrated today in the spirit of an international food, fair the ministry of agriculture previously had occasions to celebrate world food day with festivals such as the mango festival, the seafood festival, the cassava and coconut festival, the Cocoa festival and today is the international food festival where we bring together cultures Mexican, Cuban, Taiwanese, and Saint Lucian to celebrate the nutritional value of food and cultures”

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development, Hon. Alfred Prospere, expresses the significance of food availability and nutrition in Saint Lucia. The international food festival emphasizes how crucial the agriculture sector is to maintaining the security of food and nutrition.          

“ my ministry has decided to organize a special activity today where we can come together and celebrate, enjoy, and participate in all the good work The ministry is doing in terms of food, production, food, security, and nutrition. our government as you know continue to provide much needed support to our farmers, considering the importance of climate change and the significant negative impact it’s having on the whole Agriculture sector.”

In essence, the statements made by Minister Prospere and the vibrant atmosphere of the international food festival collectively underscore the essential role that the agriculture sector plays in not only ensuring food security and nutrition in Saint Lucia but also in promoting economic development and fostering community well-being.
